As countries like the United States, China, and the United Kingdom rapidly integrate artificial intelligence into their education systems, Chile is taking a major step forward. In partnership with ChileMass and Circles Learning, Caja Los Andes has launched the largest AI teacher training in Chile—a free, fully online course designed to equip 4,000 educators with essential skills to thrive in the digital era.

The initiative is aimed at educators from schools, institutes, and universities affiliated with Caja Los Andes, and it requires no prior experience with AI. Through just six sessions, participants will learn how to use tools like ChatGPT and other generative AIs to improve lesson planning, material creation, student assessment, and classroom management.

“Leading countries are embedding AI at the heart of their education strategies. Chile must do the same,” says Sofía Matte, Director of Education at ChileMass. “This course gives teachers tools to be more efficient, reduce stress, and teach with more creativity. It’s also a chance to rethink assessment and embrace AI ethically and critically.”

Free, Online, and Open to 4,000 Educators

The course is hosted on Circles Learning, a platform designed to promote active, collaborative learning. It combines the intimacy of small-group discussions with the scale of online delivery—making it possible to support thousands of teachers while still fostering peer connection.

Participants will receive constant feedback, work in teams, and apply their learning to real classroom challenges. Those who complete the course will earn a digital certificate.

Applications are open until June 30, 2025, at: www.cajalosandes.cl/cursoia

Learn from Harvard Experts and Earn a Certification

The course is led by Sebastián Marambio, founder of Circles and Harvard College graduate, and features world-renowned experts in AI and education from Harvard University:

  • Christopher Dede, Professor Emeritus in Learning Technologies
  • Pavlos Protopapas, Director of Data Science at the Harvard Institute for Quantitative Social Science
  • Seiji Isotani, Professor of Education Innovation

Through their guidance, participants will gain not only technical know-how but also critical insights into the ethical and educational dimensions of AI.

Travel to Boston: An International Experience for Outstanding Teams

Educators who complete the program and submit a standout, community-focused project will have the chance to win a fully funded professional development trip to Boston. Five teachers will travel in late October to visit leading institutions, meet global experts, and participate in cultural and academic exchanges.

This international experience, coordinated by ChileMass, includes airfare, lodging, meals, insurance, and entry to all scheduled activities.

Transforming Education Through AI Collaboration

Chile is now part of a small group of countries actively training teachers in AI—a necessary step to prevent growing digital and educational gaps. According to UNESCO, fewer than 8% of countries globally have integrated AI into teacher education.

By investing in this kind of large-scale, high-quality training, Chile is positioning its educators as global leaders in AI adoption, innovation, and collaboration.
